Foundation Partners With Bebington High School and Leeds Beckett University for Pioneering National Initiative

Yesterday we welcomed pupils, mentors and teachers from Bebington High school as part of a partnership scheme to improve the physical, social and mental wellbeing of secondary school children.

The new national initiative led by youth sport charity the Youth Sport Trust will be piloted in 25 schools; including Bebington High, across the country and evaluated by academics at Leeds Beckett University.

We were very proud to be selected as a partner to host the project at Underground Training Station, Hoylake with the school in a joint attempt to improve physical and emotional well being of students.

Pupils and mentors were treated to a 'Battle Fit' style session modelled on some of the Worlds top inspirational athletes, such as Jessica Ennis, Jonny Wilkinson, or Usain Bolt training regimes. In the second part of the session, pupils developed their strength and co-ordination skills alongside a mental health workshop focusing on tackling some of the issues affecting the young people.

Bebington High School Director of Health and Well Being and Lead Project Co-ordinator, Kevin Byrne commented on social media, "This was an amazing session delivered by Coaches Connor Ashford and Holly Kim Parsons, who are top class UTS youth coaches. Watching the students grow in confidence and fully engaged in the circuit session was immense!"

This project, which will run for a further 5 weeks will compliment the Foundations existing broad-base of work with a range of local schools whose pupils have various needs around their personal health and well being.

A full review of this and other projects across the country will be released later this year by the University.
