Central Park Health Centre

The UTS has teamed up with Central Park Health Centre, Victoria Central Hospital, Wallasey and Paediatric Nurse, Yvonne Shirley to offer a 6 week structured fitness, health and well being programme to a group of targeted children and young people who have been diagnosed with a health problem, which is having a detrimental effect on their lives.

Wirral NHS approached us after they had seen the work that we had been delivering with vulnerable groups and Yvonne was concerned that so many children and young people were presenting to her serious health conditions that were impacting on their overall health, well being and quality of life.

Using our unique circuit and exercise classes, this will be a specifically targeted and co-ordinated approach working alongside Wirral NHS to offer therapeutic treatment alongside our health programme to meet the needs of each child/young person to improve their overall health and well being, whilst developing their knowledge around diet and nutrition through workshops and monitoring of eating habits.

This will be combined with care and support from Wirral NHS who will provide a holistic approach to treating health problems in young people, which will seek to offer a long term solution.

The project kicks off on the 28th June with a 6 week pilot project that will focus on working with two separate age groups (7-11 and 12-16) at the Hospital to ensure that we cover a broad age range.

A special mention must go to Danny Keating, Director of Brooktherm Refrigeration, (http://brooktherm.co.uk/), Kelvin Park, Wallasey who have kindly donated £250 towards the payment of kit for each child to train in.
