Partnership with XRoads Recovery

Today, the Foundation established yet another exciting new partnership with XRoads Recovery, a Birkenhead based charity that works directly with ex military men and their families to provide housing and shelter to those who have lost their way.

The project has numerous houses throughout the Wirral which offer a home from home atmosphere with full professional support where clients (both veterans and civilians) feel safe and can trust the staff to take good care of them, often in a time of crisis.

Project Manager, Keith Loughran is, himself a military veteran and qualified Social Worker who offers round the clock care to ex- servicemen offering treatment from alcoholism, substance misuse, rehabilitation detox and support.

Not only do they offer shelter, this excellent project offers practical solutions to their illnesses through therapy, training and signposting to other services to help them reclaim their lives. Each person is given a key worker to assist them in their recovery whilst signposting them to them to mutual-aid groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and existing voluntary and peer support networks within their community.

Crucially, our work with XRoads begins next week, whereby we will initially offer a 6 week exercise and rehabilitation programme designed to utilise the power of physical activity to assist with their personal recovery.

Most of us are fully aware of the positive and beneficial effects of exercise and this, aligned with good nutrition and other support structures, we hope will help these brave servicemen and their families fully recover.
