Dr Colin Robertson - Tony Snell's Breakfast Show

Dear Friends of the Foundation,

Tune in to BBC Radio Merseyside (95.8FM) and Tony Snell's Breakfast Show just after the 7AM news tomorrow in conversation with our very own Dr Colin Robertson. Dr Col will be talking about the UTS Foundation and the visit of a very special lady to our facility tomorrow, former Olympian, Sarah Stevenson MBE.

Sarah, a Taekwondo Bronze Medalist is also a Trustee for the Foundation and is supporting us in giving an inspirational talk and final fitness session, which will be a chance to educate, inspire and congratulate the young people about overcoming adversity and for committing to the project.

Foundation Coaches Colin and Holly Kim Parsons have been working with Central Park Health Centre, Wallasey and Paediatric Nurse, Yvonne Shirleysince July to offer 6 week structured fitness, health and well being programmes to a group of targeted children and young people who have been diagnosed with an ongoing health problem, which is having a detrimental effect on their lives.

In 2008, Sarah competed in the Beijing Olympics with the extremely well documented controversy that led to Sarah being eliminated in the quarter finals after the referee failed to recognise clear points scored.

The decision was later overturned but with 10 minutes to prepare, Sarah was always up against it. Even after losing this match and injuring her ankle in the process, Sarah came back to win the bronze medal, the first ever medal for GB Taekwondo and become one of the most memorable athletes from the Beijing games.

Off the mat, Sarah was awarded an MBE in 2012 and was selected by her fellow athletes to read the 'Athlete Oath' at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics.

It will be an honour for us to welcome Sarah to our facility tomorrow and to hear her amazing life story which will inspire the young people we have worked with from across the Wirral to overcome whatever problems they may face.
